Invoice questions
Is this invoice generator really free?
Yes. Making, downloading and printing invoices is free, with no limit on how many. The site is paid for by a small number of ads, which are never on your invoice and never between you and the download.
Do I need to create an account?
No. There's no sign-up and no email needed. Your business details, clients and past invoices are saved in your browser on this device.
Where is my data stored?
Only in your browser's local storage, on your device. It isn't sent to our servers. That also means clearing your browser data deletes it, so use Export on the My invoices page to keep a backup file.
Can I add GST and PST on the same invoice?
Yes. Add as many tax lines as you need, each with its own name and rate, and they show as separate lines on the invoice. There are quick fills for each Canadian province, the UK, Australia and New Zealand. Check the rates that apply to your business.
What does "prices include tax" do?
Turn it on when the prices you enter already include tax. The total stays the same, and the invoice shows how much of it was tax.
What should an invoice include?
At minimum: your business name and contact details, the client's name, an invoice number, the issue date, a description of each item with its price, any tax charged, and the total due. If you're registered for GST/HST or VAT, include your registration number.
What does Net 30 mean?
Net 30 means the full amount is due 30 days after the invoice date. Pick a payment term and the due date is filled in for you.
Can I track which invoices have been paid?
Yes. Every invoice you download or save appears in My invoices with its status: due soon, overdue or paid. You see how much you're owed and how much is overdue, and you mark invoices paid when the money arrives.
Can I give my client a receipt?
Yes. Once you mark an invoice paid in My invoices, a Receipt button appears. It downloads a PDF receipt with the amount paid, the payment date and a zero balance.
Are there invoice templates for freelancers and contractors?
Yes. The freelance template is set up for hours times a rate, and the contractor template keeps labour and materials on separate lines. Both open the generator filled in and ready to edit.
Can I move my invoices to another computer?
Yes. Export a backup file on the My invoices page, then import it on the other device. You can also export your invoices as CSV to open in a spreadsheet.
